Why go to therapy?
Therapy provides a safe space for you to express your thoughts and emotions without judgment. Therapy offers validation and support—helping you feel understood and less alone. Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just stuck in life? You can learn how to identify stressors, regulate your emotions, and cultivate a sense of calm amidst life’s challenges. If you lack joy and fulfillment, therapy can guide you in exploring what brings you joy and fulfillment by identifying meaningful activities or pursuits that align with your values and interests. If you struggle with defining your identity beyond societal roles or expectations, if you lack healthy boundaries, or struggle with putting others’ needs before your own at the expense of your well-being, therapy can help you learn to set healthy boundaries, assert your needs, and prioritize self-care without guilt. Therapy encourages self-exploration, allowing you to delve into your values, beliefs, and aspirations.
Okay, but what’s the process?
-
The consultation is a time for me to get to know you, and for you to experience working with me. During this time, you will be questioned about what got you interested in therapy and what your therapy goals are. You will also get a chance to ask me any questions that you may have about me or about the therapeutic process. The consultation serves as an important first step in the therapeutic process, allowing both you and I to assess whether we are a good fit for working together. I offer a free 15-minute consultation. After the consultation, we will determine if we are a good fit.
-
During intake I will gather information about your personal history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. I will also assess your mental and emotional state. This information helps me to understand your mental health background and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs.
-
This marks the beginning of your journey towards understanding and addressing you mental health concerns. We will revisit your goals set during intake. There will be deeper exploration of your presenting concerns. I will ask open-ended questions to encourage you to express yourself freely.
